Time for Glee to take to the sea?

Norwegian and rivals Royal Caribbean are vying with each other to bring the best of Broadway and Las Vegas to cruise ship theatres.
This week’s newcomer, Norwegian Breakaway, features Rock of Ages on the main stage (above); Norwegian Epic has the innovative Blue Man Group.
Hairspray, Chicago, and Saturday Night Fever have all made the transfer from Broadway and the West End to Royal Caribbean ships, and I’m still waiting for the announcement that Jersey Boys will be next.
But hang on a minute. There’s just a chance that these ships are missing out on a huge entertainment opportunity.
No less a star than Darren Criss, who plays Blaine Anderson in TV’s Glee, has been coming up with ideas for the show’s fifth series. And he reckons it would be great to take to the sea.
“I always joke I want the show to go, like all great teen comedy clichés, I kind of want to go to the summer job land,” he told MTV News this week.
“They all have the same summer job, preferably someplace nice like a beach … so that’d be cool. Maybe a cruise ship? Maybe a wacky cruise ship, and we can spend a season on the ocean.
“Actually that sounds kind of bad. Something nice and exotic would be pretty cool. We can be the entertainment on the boat.”
How about it, Carnival? Time to put on a “proper” show instead of the 30-minute greatest hits compilations that have taken over your theatres?
