Extensive alterations to P&O cruise ship Arcadia will add a new superstructure containing 23 balcony cabins, a luxurious suite, and an extra sun deck.
The work will be carried out during a spell in dry dock at Bremerhaven from November 26 to December 12, and P&O are remaining characteristically coy about revealing details.
I asked the company for information two weeks ago but none was forthcoming. After an announcement yesterday by the company which will carry out the work, I made a further request for details from P&O. The only response was a simple confirmation of what had been disclosed by Lloyd-Werft.
Arcadia – a Vista-class ship structurally similar to Cunard’s Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth – was built by Fincantieri in Italy and launched by Dame Kelly Holmes in 2005. It sails adults-only cruises
The new structure to be added to Deck 10 will weigh 75 tons; its addition will increase the number of cabins from 976 to 1,000 and total passenger capacity (double-occupancy) from 1,952 to 2,000. The additional sundeck will be 550 square metres.
Lloyd Werft will be installing additional catering facilities and up-grading the air-conditioning as well as cleaning and re-painting the hull and overhauling the azipod drives, bow thrusters and stabilisers.
No mention yet of whether the ship will gain single cabins, which have proved a popular feature on Azura and Ventura, and which were recently added to Oriana.
Nor has P&O said whether an Olly Smith Glass House wine bar will be added, to join the Marco Pierre White Ocean Grill installed during an earlier refit.
I await further details with bated breath.
I noticed you mentioned single cabins – Arcadia has 4 single inside and 2 single balcony cabins on sale for the 2014 season
Orchid restaurant is being converted into East as per Ventura with Atul Kochar branding
Most of the details of the refit (new cabins, new restaurants, etc) have been in the public domain since April 2013 when the 2014 brochure was launched, as Steph has already flagged up
PLEASE CAN COMPANY REFITTING ARCADIA ADD A DISABLED SWIMMING POOL HOIST. I WILL BE ON ARCADIA JAN ’14 AND WOULD BE UNABLE TO USE SWIMMING POOL WITHOUT A HOIST. ALL OTHER P&O SHIPS HAVE A HOIST EXCEPT ORIANA IT IS SO IMPORTANT TO HAVE THE SAME RIGHTS AND ACCESS AS ABLE BODIED PEOPLE
