It was only in 2001 that the Golden Princess sailed her maiden voyage, and it is a measure of how fast facilities have changed and how passenger expectation has risen that the giant cruise ship is now in dry dock for a multi-million pound makeover.
New restaurants, an adults-only retreat called Sanctuary, an outdoor movie screen over the swimming pool, and a piazza-style atrium are all being built while the 108,000-ton vessel is in a shipyard in Victoria, on the west coast of Canada.
Princess Cruises are so proud of their plans, they have set up a dedicated website to keep passengers updated.
Not only that, they are using almost every avenue available in the internet to publicise the ongoing work. You can follow it via Twitter, Facebook, and at the picture gallery on Flickr
After all that, they had better make sure the connection in the ship’s re-vamped internet café and library is lightning fast.
