Saga Pearl II, the replacement for the much-loved Saga Rose, is nearing the end of a £20 million re-fit in dry-dock at Swansea, and the 450-passenger ship will be named in Southampton next month.
There are still some places on her inaugural voyage, to the Norwegian fjords and north of the Arctic Circle, with TV’s Judith Chalmers and comedian Tom O’Connor for company.
Fares for the 18-night cruise, departing on March 15, start at £2,404 per person and include travel to and from your home to Southampton, insurance, and all meals, entertainment and gartuities on board. Saga cruises are for passengers over 50.

Or fly to the Dominican Republic on February 28 to board Thomson Destiny for a seven-night cruise to Bridgetown, Barbados; Basseterre, St Kitts, and Road Town, Tortola. Fares from £949. Go to or call 0800 280 2614.
Travelling alone? You can avoid punitive single supplements by booking a river cruise with AMA Waterways before February 10. The offer is valid for all the company’s cruises on the major European waterways between April and October.
For example, a cabin on a Tulip Time cruise leaving Amsterdam on April 2, 5 or 12, is available for £689, including all meals and entertainment on board, including champagne breakfast and house wine with dinner.
