Royal wedding plans at sea

Cunard have been quick off the mark to announce that passengers on their three ships will be able to watch the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton in the appropriate surroundings of a Royal Court Theatre.
And as the Royal couple tie the know on Friday, April 29 in Westminster Abbey, Cunard will be celebrating with a commemorative dinner menu, and a champagne toast.
The Royal Court theatre on flagship Queen Mary 2 seats more than 1,000. If that’s not enough, the event will also be screened in Illuminations – the only planetarium at sea – as the ship sails between New York and Southampton on a seven-night Transatlantic crossing.
On sister ships Queen Victoria, which will be at sea in the Mediterranean, and Queen Elizabeth, also at sea heading for Southampton, the theatres seat 800, and passengers from the most expensive suites will be able to watch from the Royal box – although in my experience they would get a better view from the stalls seats.
Cunard president and managing director Peter Shanks said: “Cunard is a company with an enviable heritage and unparalleled links to the Royal family – our ships were named by Her Majesty The Queen and by HRH The Duchess of Cornwall. It follows then that our passengers are likely to have an above average interest in the pageantry of a Royal wedding. We intend to cater for that and ensure they do not miss one minute.”
P&O Cruises have also announced the ceremony will be broadcast on their seven ships, although no further details are yet available.
I suspect their will be some people who will choose to take a holiday around April 29 simply to get away from the Royal celebraytions back home. They might have to look for an alternative to a British cruise ship.
