If I was lucky enough to be on a cruise ship right now, I could be relaxing somewhere warm, relishing the fact that I was being waited on hand and foot, enjoying sumptuous meals prepared by a battalion of chefs, and making the most of the fact that I had nothing more strenuous to do than drag myself from the bar to the theatre, back to the bar and on to my cabin.
Instead, I’m at home, where the snow that melts slightly each day is frozen solid again next morning. Every spare moment of the last couple of days has been spent filling supermarket trolleys and waiting in the check-out queue. And there’s still last-minute shopping to be done. Do you think there will be any bread and milk left by 11.00 a.m.?
When the last of the Christmas dinner washing-up has been finished tomorrow there will be time to dream of next year’s cruise destinations: the Caribbean, Dubai, Svalbard, Cuba, the Greek islands . . . . bliss.
In the meantime, a very Merry Christmas to all my readers. I’ll see you again in a couple of days.
Merry Christmas, Cap’n, and may our paths cross on the Allure of the Seas…….or other suitable craft.
And a Happy New Year. Continue your great work.
