The success of Facebook has seen founder Mark Zuckerberg adding Time magazine’s “Person of the Year” title to all the other acclamation that has come his way, not to mention a $1.5 billion investment from Goldman Sachs. The popularity – and profitability – of the social network stems as much from its adoption by big business as it does from users sharing their holiday pictures and gossip.
And today, P&O Cruises announced a giveaway designed to increase the number of people – currently standing at almost 18,000 – following their Facebook pages. A 20-night cruise for two, from Hong Kong to Sydney is on offer to one lucky user – although it could be that P&O has overestimated the computer literacy of some of their fans.
Comments posted on Facebook within hours of the draw’s announcement include: “Where is the welcome thing?” “How do I get on to click the ‘welcome’ tab?” and “Can’t send email, so can’t enter competition :(”
I’m sure they will sort themselves out before the closing date of March 2, for the cruise on board Oriana in February 2012.
Managing director Carol Marlow, said: “Social media sites, including Facebook, are one of the quickest and direct ways to talk with our passengers. Not only has Facebook given us a new outlet to share information with our passengers, it has also given passengers a chance to share information and photographs with each other.”
“A world cruise really is a once in a lifetime experience and this cruise holiday and one lucky facebooker will have the chance to join one. Starting in one of the busiest ports in the world, Hong Kong, the ship will make ports of call in Brunei and beautiful Bali before visiting the Whitsunday Islands, perfect for a spot of snorkelling, and Brisbane on the Gold Coast. A highlight of the trip has to be sailing into Sydney and seeing that iconic skyline as the ship heads towards the harbour.”
