Europe to lose the Disney Magic

Families who fancy a Mediterranean cruise on Disney Magic had better make a booking pretty soon – the ship leaves Europe in September, and won’t be back next year. After a winter sailing to the Caribbean from Port Canaveral, the ship will spend summer operating out of New York and then moves to Galveston, Texas.
Mickey Mouse’s 20 cruises from the Big Apple will be eight-night voyages to the Bahamas with just three ports of call – Nassau, the private resort of Castaway Cay, and Port Canaveral – and five-night sailings north to Halifax , Nova Scotia and St John, New Brunswick. Fares from £773 to the Bahamas and £445 to Canada.
There will also be three two-night cruises to nowhere (June 15, July 13 and August 10) with fares from £230.
The first of this year’s cruises from Barcelona departs on May 28 and the ship, which carries up to 2,400 passengers, sets off back across the Atlantic on September 10.
The cruise line promises to return to Europe – but isn’t saying when. President Karl Holz told Seatrade Insider “‘Europe is important to our long-term future,We expect to return to Europe beyond 2012.”
The new Disney Dream, launched in January, will continue to sail three, four and five-night cruises from Port Canaveral, with the five-night itinerary including two stops at Castaway Cay. The voyages are ideal for Brits who want to combine a few days at sea with a visit to the theme parks of Orlando.
Sister ship Disney Fantasy, launching on March 21 next year, will begin a season of seven-night alternating Eastern and Western Caribbean cruises visiting St. Maarten and St. Thomas one week, and Grand Cayman, Costa Maya and Cozumel the next, with both routes including Castaway Cay.
Disney Wonder, which sails to Alaska for the first time this year, will be back there again in 2012, but will be based in Seattle instead of Vancouver. In April the ship will test a 15-night cruise to Hawaii, where Disney is opening a new resort.

I had no idea that you could even take a Disney theme cruise. Used to work in the oil industry working in Houston occasionally so I know Galveston quite well. Not sure I see it as a Disney venue even aboard a ship, but I guess you never know?
