New Kids on the Beach

//New Kids on the Beach

halfmooncay.jpgHalf Moon Cay is one of the most beautiful of all the private resorts used by cruise ships. The perfect crescent of beach, on a peaceful island in the Bahamas, is surrounded by a warm, clear sea. The sand is as soft as talcum powder; there are snorkels and pedaloes for hire for the energetic, and sunbeds aplenty for those who just want to lie in the sun. The sign above the beach bar proclaims “I Wish I Could Stay Here Forever” and one of the most popular attractions is horse riding through the waves.
Even with a shipload of passengers taken ashore by tender it’s as tranquil a haven as you could wish for, as I discovered when I visited on Eurodam (above).
nkotb1s.jpgIt was a different place entirely last week when Carnival Destiny arrived, bringing one-time boy band New Kids On The Block. There’s hardly a grain of sand to be seen on the beach as almost 3,000 fans crowd round the specially-erected stage to watch the show.
NKOTB are no strangers to Carnival – this was the third time the group had performed on a cruise, but it’s the first time they put on a show on the island.
My thanks to Carnival’s senior cruise director, John Heald, for releasing these pictures of the event, and to Fascination’s Tim Cabral, head of the in-house production team whose team erected the stage and who reported: “We produced one of the largest group concerts and we did it all on an ISLAND! It was an incredible concert, and I want to thank everyone involved. This was an undertaking that was months in the making, and was a HUGE Success!”
So which British cruise line is going to sign Take That to put on a similar show for UK fans?

    I am from the UK and I was there. It was the most amazing experience of my life and I would do it all over again. NKOTB don’t get the recognition they deserve over here.
