Coast Guard investigate cruise bump

/, Cruise News/Coast Guard investigate cruise bump

fantasy.jpgThere will be some red faces at Carnival Cruise Line, after two of their ships managed to collide with each other yesterday in Key West, Florida. Goodness knows what the captains had to say to each other as they stood on the quayside examining the minor damage caused when Carnival Fantasy (above) bashed into almost-identical sister ship Carnival Imagination while manoeuvring into port. Admittedly the damage was cosmetic, and no-one was hurt when the ships struck stern-to-stern. The US Coast Guard is investigating, and carried out alcohol and drug tests on key personnel as a matter of routine. Imagination was on the first day of a four-night cruise from Miami. Fantasy is due back in Charleston, South Carolina on Friday.
UPDATE: It’s turning into an eventful week for Carnival Imagination. Tropical Storm Don, with maximum sustained winds of 45 mph, forced the ship to divert from Cozumel in Mexico. Instead it spent the day several hundred miles east, at Freeport in the Bahamas.

It’s a good thing Fantasy didn’t have any of those 98 snap-on pirate balconies Carnival is adding to all its Fantasy class ships. Some of them hang out at the stern! Look at this – somebody could have been hurt!
