There’s an interesting and action-packed week in prospect, travelling to three popular Mediterranean cruise destinations. I’m being whisked from Kusadasi to Rome and Venice to see what is being planned for passengers arriving next year on Disney Magic.
The ship returns to Europe in June and as well as offering shore excursions for day visitors, will be putting together a selection of extended tours in conjunction with Adventures by Disney. Being Disney, it’s not just a matter of sitting on a coach listening to a guide describing what’s in front of me.
So I’ll be taking part in an archaeological excavation near Kusadasi – presumably Ephesus – and relaxing afterwards with an authentic Turkish bath. In keeping with Disney’s family values, a puppet show will act as an introduction to the highlights of Rome, and a full day will see me touring the Coliseum, the Vatican and the Sistine Chapel, not to mention the chance to throw some coins in the Trevi Fountain. Next I’ll be taught how to row a gondola before what is intriguingly described as a “secret Venice experience.”
Although I’m the only UK journalist invited to join a group of seven from the US, I won’t be travelling on my own as I’ll be taking a mystery companion. Check the blogs next week to see who it is. Just one clue – like me, he has a beard.
►Unfortunately and unavoidably the Disney trip means I won’t be able to be part of another group taking a look at the new Royal Princess, under construction in a shipyard near Venice. I’ll be keeping an eye out for reports and pictures from some of my colleagues.
