Top speakers in good company

//Top speakers in good company

Readers who saw my earlier post, or who have been following on Twitter, will know that this week I am back in south-east Asia, and back on board Aegean Odyssey,on which I have enjoyed two cruises in the Mediterranean.
I flew into Singapore on Friday and boarded the ship on Saturday afternoon. As we sailed through the evening towards Kuala Lumpur, dinner provided an opportunity to meet some of the fellow-passengers.
I shared a table with former war correspondent and one-time MP Martin Bell, who seemed as keen to learn about my exploits at the Daily Mirror as I am to hear of his life and times – which as one of five guest speakers on board, he will be talking about in three separate presentations.
We will fly back to the UK together just before Christmas, and a few days into the New Year we will both be back at sea again. I shall be in the Caribbean on the newly-refurbished Thomson Dream, while The Man in the White Suit – as he was known in his reporting days – travels on Cunard’s Queen Mary 2 for more than two weeks.
Departing from Southampton on January 10, he will be sailing to Barcelona, and Athens, through the Suez Canal to Port Sokhne in Egypt, and then on to Dubai. He will be in good company as far as guest speakers on Cunard ships during the next few weeks.
Actress Celia Imrie is on board QM2 next week, crossing from Southampton to New York, and returning on January 3. Former Chief of Staff, General Lord Dannatt, will be on the ship from February 9-17, cruising from Singapore to Hong Kong.
Actress Jane Asher, nowadays better known as a celebrity cake baker and decorator, will be aboard sister ship Queen Victoria, sailing from Southampton to Nw York between January 10 – 18.
All are following in the footsteps of Rolf Harris, who crossed the Atlantic on Queen Mary 2 in November, meeting passengers, signing books, and selling some of his artworks. He also took part in a live painting demonstration – can you see what it is yet? – and a Q&A with entertainment director Keith Maynard, featured in the video clip below.
