Want to see how £100 million is being spent transforming Carnival Destiny into Carnival Sunshine? Then take a look at this video which shows what the ship will look like when it emerges from dry dock in April.
The changes will bring the 1996-built ship bang up-to-date with the addition of Funship 2.0 features such as a Blue Iguana Tequila Bar and adults-only Serenity Retreat.
Much of the original Joe Farcus-designed over-the-top decor will be torn out and dumped in skips, replaced by the lighter, airier, resort-casual feel introduced last year on Carnival Breeze.
The central; atrium still looks pretty crazy though; the colours might be muted, but those giant strings of shiny spheres look like a pinball table just burst open.
It’s just a shame that the video concentrates on Sunshine’s future life in the Caribbean and ignores the fact that the ship will be sailing in the Mediterranean from April to November.
And any UK viewers should ignore any invitations to “Grab Your Destiny” (below) and win a souvenir from among the ship’s cast-offs – unfortunately for us, the contest is open only to US residents. Come on, Carnival, let us have a go.
Sorry I find this decor very bland and boring. Doesn’t do it for me.
“the contest is open only to US residents”: this rule does annoy me John, as Carnival are an international cruise line in a global market place. I bet they would sell me a cabin on-board Sunshine!
