The stakes have just been raised for cruise ship entertainment with P&O’s announcement of a season of celebrity performances on voyages from the UK later this year.
Performers including David Essex, Michael Ball, Paul Young and Toyah will be on the line’s ships this autumn.
Essex, who scored 19 Top 40 hits in a career which blossomed in the 1970s and went on to become Eddie Moon in EastEnders, will be on board Azura during a cruise to the Caribbean, departing November 1.
Michael Ball, one of the biggest stars in West End musical theatre, is travelling to the Baltic on Aurora, leaving on December 9.
Lee Mead, winner of the TV show Any Dream Will Do, is performing in a show called The West End Men on a cruise to the Canary Islands on board Ventura, sailing from Southampton on 29.
Here And Now – The Very Best of the 80s, will take Paul Young, Toyah, Heaven 17, Howard Jones, Carol decker from T’Pau and Clare Grogan from Altered Images on a 12-night cruise aboard Oceana to the Mediterranean.
Managing director Carol Marlow said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to announce our largest ever choice of star-studded cruises. Combine these celebrity names with our other famous faces performing at sea; Katherine Jenkins, the Strictly Come Dancing team and our very own celebrity chefs, and I think we have something for everyone, whether you’re a child of the 70s, 80s or 90s.”
