Money-back promise from Fred

MY COLUMN FROM SATURDAY’S DAILY MIRROR
Not sure whether you would enjoy a cruise? Now there’s a way to find out that could cost absolutely nothing except time.
Fred Olsen Cruise Lines‘ Enjoyment Promise will give any customer who has not travelled on the company’s ships before the chance to try a cruise and to get their money back if the don’t enjoy it.
What’s more, having made the decision – and it has to be within 48 hours of boarding – they will be flown home at Olsen’s expense.
The scheme will be launched on Monday [December 2] and is available on bookings made until February 28. It does not apply to cruises shorter than six nights or longer than 35 nights.
Sales director Nathan Philpot says: “According to research by Mintel, 14 per cent of adults in the UK had been on a cruise, with 24 per cent considering one. So if there are more people considering cruising – more than 12 million adults – why are they not yet cruising?
“Typically, the common misconceptions are the fear of seasickness, that cruise ships are cramped, the high cost of drinks on board, and inflexible dress codes.
“At Fred Olsen, we know that more than 50 per cent of our guests return to our ships time after time so we need to get more people on board to show them these barriers are not real.
“We know that the chances are they will fall in love with the destinations, the friendliness, great value and warm welcome we provide on board. If they don’t, we promise to drop them off at the next port, fly them back to the UK and give them 100 per cent of their cruise fare back.”

We had a terrible cruise with Fred Olsen Baltic Christmas markets 2012. It was supposed to be a special occasion for my 60th Birthday but we missed out on visiting 2 ports of call including two Christmas markets plus travelling up the Keil canal in Daylight.
Fred Olsen put every thing down to poor weather but they knew that there was a problem with works in the Keil Canal but did not book a slot for us to travel at the promised time.
Our suite was very noisey with a continuous thrump thrump sound from the funnel. When we complained on our return following 2 letters all we were offered was 10 percent of a further cruise. Never again.
