Billionaire’s daughter charters cruise ship for island birthday party

/, Cruise News/Billionaire’s daughter charters cruise ship for island birthday party

In case anyone’s curiosity was roused by my earlier cryptic message about a billionaire’s daughter’s birthday party, let me provide some more details.
The young lady in question is Ekaterina Rybolovleva; her father, Dmitry, is the 79th richest man in the world according to Forbes – or at least he was until a court ordered him to pay out $4.5 billion in a divorce settlement last month.
To celebrate her 25th birthday, Ekaterina threw a party on the Greek island of Skorpios, which she bought from the estate of Jackie Onassis for a reported £200 million. Despite that price tag, there is little in the way of accommodation on the island, so guests were put up on board luxury cruise ship Seabourn Spirit, which was chartered for the occasion.
The 10,000-ton vessel can carry up to 212 passengers and has a swimming pool, spa, and casino. Seabourn confirmed Spirit was operating a private charter this week, but they would not give any details of the deal.
Although she has Russian roots and is an adopted daughter of Greece, Ekaterina spends much of her time in London. She is a keen horsewoman and is trained by British Olympic gold medallist Ben Maher.
Her father’s business interests include mining and banking. He also owns AS Monaco football club and says he once considered buying Manchester United.
